Aaron Broughton

Owner and Operator

My name is Aaron Broughton and have been a full time fly fishing guide based in the beautiful Gallatin Valley for 15 years. After growing up in rural Northern California fishing the rivers, streams, lakes and ponds of the Sierra Nevada north of Yosemite National Park, I made the move to Southwest Montana to start a new life and be immersed in the storied blue ribbon trout waters of the region.

When I was not working in local fly shops and at local ski areas or studying at Montana State University, I was exploring the local waters and spending time at the vise fine tuning local fly patterns. Beyond my own personal fishing I have always loved sharing and teaching what I have learned from my own angling and tying pursuits which made the transition to guiding mostly seamless. Not only do I get to share my passion with others, but also help to foster an appreciation for the delicate environments where I spend my time.

When I am not with clients on the water, I can be found swinging flies for steelhead in the Pacific Northwest, fishing locally, tying flies, snowboarding and adventuring with my girlfriend and golden retriever, Walker.

Guiding is a fluid profession that should be constantly evolving. Catching fish is important to our guide service, but beyond that we are patient instructors that truly care about your day on the water, whatever that may entail for you. All skill levels are met with the same enthusiasm for the day. Southwest Montana Fly Fishing was born from the need for more experienced and safe guide services in the Gallatin Valley. We know you will appreciate the difference!
